In January I wrote about the books that I wanted to read this year. I’d set myself a Goodreads challenge of reading 120 books during 2020. My intention had been to do a monthly round up of what I’d been reading, so now seems as good a time as any to catch up with that!
I whizzed through fifteen books in March, most of them crime books. It’s probably no surprise that after binge-watching Inspector Montalbano in February, I spent a lot of March reading the rest of them. I’m pretty sad that, currently, I have one of the series left which is on pre-order. The author of these books passed away not so long ago, but I do hope that there are more books still to be translated into English!
As well as the Montalbano series, I also caught up with the Inspector Chopra books which I love. Completely different kind of crime book but hugely enjoyable; who wouldn’t want an elephant side kick?!
I also discovered the Scotland Street series of novels by Alexander McCall Smith after picking up the first two in a charity bookshop. He wrote the hugely popular No 1 Ladies Detective Agency Series (which I’m slowly working my way through) and these books are great too. Definitely a more cosy read thananything else I read.
The worst book I read this month was, without a doubt, Love Nina: Dispatches From Family Life. I picked it up from book club, but abandoned it in a rage. My review says it all really!
My Favourite Book in March
Generally speaking I wouldn’t choose to read short stories. However, I read two volumes of Montalbano short stories this month and absolutely loved them. I hadn’t realised that the short stories form the basis of some of the TV series, which shows how much detail is in them! Death at Sea was my favourite, and these are all books I’ll go back and read again.
My Star Ratings For March’s Books
Here’s the full list of my March reading and my star rating out of five for each one. If you click on the rating, it’ll take you over to my Goodreads review (if there is one for that title!) 😊
