In January I wrote about the books that I wanted to read this year. I’d set myself a Goodreads challenge of reading 120 books during 2020. My intention had been to do a monthly round up of what I’d been reading, so now seems as good a time as any to catch up with that!
Book Club in Lockdown
I don’t know about you, but I’m certainly finding a little more time to read whilst we’re in lockdown. When the girls are busy playing upstairs, or watching something on TV, I’m taking a bit of time to relax and read. I’m really pleased that my book club is still meeting too, albeit virtually. It’s lovely to still have that in my diary, even if I am missing the coffee and cake we’d usually have!
January Reads
I managed to read thirteen books in January. Well, not strictly true, two of them were audiobooks. Do you listen to audiobooks? I never have before but realising you could speed up the audio was game changing! I’m a fast reader and get frustrated listening to others. Plus I realised that some KindleUnlimited books have a free Audible version included, so I thought I’d give it a go.
My Favourite Book This Month
My absolute favourite book in January was A Fire Sparkling. I’d had it on my Kindle for ages, but you know when you just have to be in the mood to read something? It was fantastic and I’ll definitely read it again. Set in the present day and during WWII, it really captured my imagination and I thought the story was brilliant.
I read a couple of bad books this month too. Holly Banks Full of Angst was definitely the worst, thank goodness it was a free Kindle book. The Misadventures of Ingrid Winter was a close second though and the audio seemed to go on forever.
I also wasn’t keen on my book club’s choice for January either: The Lost Letters of William Woolf. I wanted to love it, but the main character was irritating and the story utterly implausible.
