Did you read my last post about how amazing cork leather is?
I was given a piece of this awesome eco-friendly textile as part of a kit from Craftiosity. The kit was for making a coaster, but I don’t use them so I decided to make myself an accessory instead. This is such a quick, easy no-sew craft idea; it’ll only take you ten minutes! Here’s how I made an easy keyring.
All you need for this super-easy tassel key-ring is some cork leather, scissors, superglue, pen and ruler. Ready? Let’s go!
Cut a piece of cork leather. Mine measures approximately 10cm by 7cm, but choose any size you like.
Flip it over and draw a line across the width, about 1cm from the top edge. This will mark where to cut to. Mark the width of each tassel, 0.5cm should do it.
Cut along the guide dots, making sure to stop at the line.
Cut the last tassel off. This will be the loop for attaching to a keyring.
Fold the loop piece in half and superglue together. Glue to the top corner of the cork leather piece, above the line.
Spread superglue across the top, above the line.
Carefully roll up everything up together, nice and tight.
Use a clothes peg to keep the tassel together whilst the glue dries.
Attach to your keys and you’re done! Admire your new handmade keyring.
What do you think? I think my key is looking pretty cool now 🙂 I enjoyed making mine, and made a second one which I’m going to add to a long necklace. The cork leather is really nice to work. I would like to have a go at sewing a purse or maybe making a notebook cover. It’s definitely not the last time I’ll be using this textile that’s for sure!
I love this! It looks nice and simple to work with.
