Happy New Year everyone!
Once again the previous year has passed in the blink of an eye and here we are wondering how on earth it’s January again. It also means I can start annoying my family with a countdown to my birthday in a month’s time, lol. Did you have a nice New Year’s Eve? We stayed in and watched TV, so no different to any other night really! To be honest the most exciting thing for me about a new year is having a new diary to fill in.
This year I’ve moved away from my usual bullet journal and I’m trying out a Passion Planner. I can get distracted trying to make my bullet journal look pretty, so this will save me some time!
What would a happy new year post be without some navel-gazing and looking back on the past year?
If I had to sum up 2017 in one word, it would be change. Life seems to have changed in all sorts of ways since this time last year. On a personal level, a few things have changed with my family and not necessarily for the better. My relationship with my brother has changed for the better though which makes me happy.
A huge change for us in 2017 was that Phoebe started school! Having been at home with my girls for so long now, it’s been a real period of adjustment for me and I’ll admit, I still feel a bit lost at times.
Another family change was making the decision to all become vegan. Absolutely no regrets and we’re really enjoying plenty of delicious food, including all of the stuff we ate for Christmas.
Blog wise, attending Blogtacular and reading Overdressed has been a massive catalyst for change. I started to take my blog more seriously, which has led to all kinds of awesome stuff (even interviewing a Spice Girl!). I’ve massively changed the way I look at sewing now too. I think sustainable sewing is the way forward and as a result I haven’t sewn as many garments as I might have otherwise. I feel like I’m still figuring a few things out there.
You’ll know if you’re a regular blog reader that a huge change this year has been trying to live as ethically as possible. It started just with clothes but has had us considering every aspect of our lives. I’ve even changed my bank account to a more ethical one! I’m not saying that I’ve got it all figured out, but it’s nice to feel like the small changes we have made are making a difference.
I don’t go in for resolutions but I liked the idea of choosing a focus word for the year. Yes, it sounds a bit daft, but stick with me here.In fact just go and search for “word for the year” on Pinterest and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
I’ve chosen a word that I’m going to try to keep in my mind throughout the year and something that I think will help me in making choices, whether for myself, my family, my blog or my business. My focus word for 2018 is:
I feel that this is going to help guide me in all areas of my life, as long as I keep thinking about it. I’ve drawn a mind map in my Passion Planner to consider how areas of my life can benefit. I won’t share it, but it has family, relationships, friendships, finances, blog, business, self, health and well being… you get the idea. Do you do this, or do you prefer a good old-fashioned New Year’s Resolution?
Here’s to a wonderful 2018 for us all!
