Circus Pyjamas Using The Makery Pyjama Pattern

Me Made May 2020 got off to a really positive start for me, so it really is just what I needed. On the 1st May I didn’t wear anything handmade, but I did have a look through the little fabric I have so that I could sew something. The result being my awesome circus pyjamas!

Circus Fabric

I’m not a fabric hoarder at all, but I’ve had this circus print fabric since 2014. I picked it up in a fabric swap at the first ever Sew Brum, with the intention of sewing something for Phoebe who was one at the time. Why I never did is a mystery to me, but I’ve held onto to the fabric ever since. It’s a Michael Miller pattern called Pierre’s Famous Travelling Circus and I just love it.

Circus pyjamas seemed like the most obvious thing to sew, especially as I just want to wear comfortable stuff around the house right now. Sadly I didn’t have enough fabric to make long pyjama bottoms, so short pyjamas it is!

The Makery Pyjama Pattern

This pattern is by The Makery and was a freebie with Simply Sewing Magazine a couple of years ago, although I’m not exactly sure when. The perfect pattern to get me back into sewing and to make something cute with the circus fabric!

I cut out a size small based on my measurements. There are two pattern pieces for the front of the top, one for the back and two pieces for the shorts. Super easy and as it was printed on paper, there was no tracing. Happy dance!

Circus Pyjamas

This pyjama pattern was a really quick and easy sew, and the instructions included were good. It felt great to be back at my sewing machine and I enjoyed sewing these.

The shorts fit perfectly and they’re super comfortable. They’re not too short either, if you know what I mean. I think that for the top I possibly should have gone a size up as my boobs are a little big for the size small pattern. It’s still totally wearable though and I’ll be wearing it with the shorts as soon as we hit summer. For now, I’ll just be wearing the shorts with t-shirts, like I am right now!

I didn’t feel comfortable sharing a photo of me wearing these, sorry. But here’s a front and back view of my circus pyjamas on my lovely dress form instead:

Part of me Me Made May 2020 pledge was to sew two garments to make me smile. I’d say that this definitely gets me halfway there! I’m feeling inspired to go through a few more of my patterns now and choose something else to sew.

What’s on your sewing table?
